Does Donor Support Improve International Health?

Judith Justice, PhD, MPH, School of Medicine, Univeristy of California San Francisco, 85 Fairlawn Drive, Berkeley, CA 94708, 510-841-7404, justice@itsa.ucsf.edu and Julia Walsh, MD, DTPH, School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley, 306 Earl Warren Hall, UC-Berkeley, Berkeley, CA 94720.

For most organizations and foundations evaluating support for international health programs has become a routine part of the funding process. Many approaches have been developed for assessing program outcomes. However, less attention has been given to how evaluation findings are utilized and the impact on policies and programs. A panel representing foundations and international organizations ( including the Gates Foundation, Hewlett and Packard Foundations, and USAID) in addition to independent evaluators, will address the issues of how funders evaluate their grants and how the information is used to improve health.
