Abstract #68770

Leadership through partnership: A community-wide collaboration

Katherine Cauley, PhD1, Mary M Crimmins, MA1, Carla Clasen, RN/MPH1, and Rudolph Arnold, MD2. (1) Center for Healthy Communities, Wright State University, 140 East Monument Avenue, Dayton, OH 45402, 937 775 1114, katherine.cauley@wright.edu, (2) Miami Valley Health Improvement Council, 8353 Intrastate Drive, Fairborn, OH 45324

HealthLink Miami Valley is a community wide partnership involving over 75 health and human services organizations working to develop a comprehensive, integrated system of health care services for the health uninsured in the Dayton (Ohio) community. Critical to the success of this initiative has been the governance structure of this broad-based partnership, which is supported by an internet based public record documenting all proceedings and activities of the partnership. This public website facilitates wide review of all work group meeting agendas and minutes, strategic plans, databases, reports, research and evaluation outcomes documents, press releases, funding proposals, and dissemination documentation, all in approximate real time. Such immediate access to the structure, functioning and results of this community wide effort facilitates shared governance, timely decision making involving all stakeholders, public accountability and a comprehensive electronic record which archives the history and ongoing work of the partnership. Presenters will review the specific components of this "leadership through partnership" governance model and provide a template to facilitate replication of the model with safety net services in communities across the country.
