California has developed an exciting Systems and Practice Model for Public Health Nursing. This model defines the full scope of Public Health Nursing Practice in California including: - The infrastructure requirements needed for the scope of practice. - The practice resources needed to do the work. - The evaluation process for determing if the scope of work was accomplished and if so how well it was accomplished and identification of variances if it was not accomplished.
The scope of practice identifies infrastructure requirements including competancies, staffing standards and minimum data set. It also describes practice resources needed to accomplish the work including: - Assessment tools - Acuity Instruments - Nursing/community diagnosis - Standardized interventions - Action plans and standards of care
The discussion will focus on challenges in developing the model and next steps in the implementation process.
