Patricia Sosa, JD, Constituency Relations Department, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, 1400 Eye Stret NW Suite 1200, Washington Dc, DC 20005, 202-2965469, psosa@tobaccofreekids.org

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has on going initiative working with faith communities and tobacco control advocates in order to expand the coalitions working in support of increasing tobacco taxes and clean indoor ordinances. As part of this initiative, we have built partnerships with a number of denominations uncluding the Methodist, Seven Day Adventists, United Church Christ and Presbyterian Church. The staff of these denominations is helping the Campaign reach out to their state and local leadership and is encouraging them to join and support the efforts of their state coalition. As part of the partnership the Campaign has been coordinating regional meeting/traning sessions bringing together tobacco control advocates and the faith community. We are also hosting state meetings in target states including Maryland, New Hamphire, Illinois, Massachusetts, Indiana and Ohio. After the meetings, the Campaign is helping state coalitions follow up with the faith leadership in order to assure their continuing involvement, draft advocacy messages that appeal to these communities and coordinate press events to show elected officials the breadth of support for tobacco control of the faith community. Presenters will speak on successful efforts to help advocates replicate efforts to build effective and powerful relationship with their local congregations. Speakers would include representatives from the Campaign, Methodist Church and tobacco control advocates in New Hamphire and Maryland.
