Addressing lack of access to health care services requires a coordinated and systematic approach by many community stakeholders. The process should include not only an assessment of the existing services, implementation of new procedures to enhance current resources, but also a strategic plan to improve access to care. In Dayton,Ohio, Montgomery County, a collaborative of public and private health and social service providers are working together to improve access to health care for the uninsured and disadvantaged residents. Their successes include increased access to health services for many residents. Over 100 stakeholders contributed to the strategic plan for improved access to care, resulting in a capacity assessment and implementation of a plan for improved access to care.
