Antonia Jenny Foreit, MPH, International Programs, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, 1400 I St. NW Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20005, 202 296-5469, jforeit@tobaccofreekids.org
Tobacco control advocates around the world face the same basic question: how to convince policymakers to adopt effective tobacco control policies and legislation? While there are as many potential advocacy activities as there are advocates, they all share a need for information. From basic tobacco-use prevalence and biological effects information to analyses of existing tobacco control programs, research has a role to play in advocates' work. This presentation will examine the types of information and research advocates view as critical to their mission, and will discuss why new research is not always high on advocates' agendas.
