California has been the home to a number of high profile efforts to improve the nutritional quality of foods and beverages available to children at school, most notably the decision by the Los Angeles Unified School District to eliminate soda sales and state legislation to set nutrient standards for school foods and beverages. This presentation will highlight several California examples that illustrate the very simple and very complex ways that California schools are increasing the availability of healthy options. Resources for achieving similar changes will be discussed.
