Bassett, EdD, MHA, Bureau of HIV/AIDS, Quality Management Institute, Florida Department of Health, P. O. Box 1507, Middleburg, FL 32050, and V. Scott Fisher, MPH, National Association of County and City Health Officials, 1100 17th Street, NW, 2nd Floor, Washington, DC 20036.

In 2001, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) released a new community strategic planning tool, Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP). MAPP provides guidance and tools for conducting a community health improvement process. Since MAPP’s release, NACCHO has been monitoring several communities as they implement MAPP. The demonstration site process is intended to highlight how the tool can be used and customized when implemented in a variety of settings. Although not all sites have finished going through the process, a number of themes and benefits have already been realized.

This session will begin with a brief overview of the MAPP process. The majority of the time, however, will be devoted to presentations and a discussion about the experiences and benefits from selected demonstration sites implementing MAPP. In particular, how MAPP influences community partnerships, philosophies, policies and processes. This session will be of interest to state and local health department staff, community partners, and others interested in MAPP or similar community health improvement initiatives.
