The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) was formed in 2001 to recognize and enhance the work being done in public health by independent, nonprofit collaborative entities. Many states have formed these multi-sector organizations with their unique partnerships with government, the business community, academia and other nonprofits. NNPHI currently has 23 member institutes and is working with individuals in a number of states on the development of new institutes. The range of programs in the member institutes is impressive. Examples include providing objective analytical information to state legislatures, developing statewide or community-specific training programs, conducting major research, and managing coalitions. NNPHI helps leverage its members’ expertise and resources. Member institutes learn from one another and enjoy the potential for joint ventures.

The presentation will begin with a brief update on NNPHI's activities over the last year. The presentation will then focus on three or four programs of NNPHI members in detail, including: The Public Health Institute's Public Health Trust; the Michigan Public Health Institute’s Local Public Health Accreditation Program; and the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement's role in health policy issues and the formation of UAMS College of Public Health. After each model program is presented there will be time for questions and answers.
