Danelle Bickett-Weddle, Center for Food Security and Public Health, Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Ames, IA 50011, 515-294-9300, dbweddle@iastate.edu

Since January 2003, 125 veterinarians from 46 states and Puerto Rico have been conducting educational seminars on the Category A, B, and C agents for veterinarians, food producers, and the general public as part of the national Bioterrorism Awareness and Zoonotic Disease Education Program that was developed by the Center for Food Security and Public Health (CFSPH) at Iowa State University. Effectiveness of the educational program and its materials has been assessed through participant evaluation. In addition to the detailed Power Point presentations, fact sheets, and wall charts, other, more novel, educational materials have been developed specifically for younger audiences.

This session will discuss the effectiveness of the Bioterrorism Awareness and Zoonotic Disease Education Program to date, the novel approaches that our Center has taken toward bioterrorism/zoonotic disease education, and present information about presentations going on throughout the nation.
