Conditions in jails and prisons

Mass incarceration, budget shortfalls and draconian legislation and Court decisions have slowed or reversed many of the grudging gains made in prison conditions in the United States. Lagging behind other industrialized nations the US continues its troubled human rights record for its incarcerated people.
