To understand how the built environment can be improved, we must first understand how it is regulated. Unfortunately, the control and regulation of the indoor built environment is complex and often counter-intuitive. This presentation will review how the indoor built environment is regulated in the United States, with emphasis on (1) the parties involved; (2) the roles of local, state and the federal government; and (3) the role of private and membership consensus organizations. The presentation will also explore the appropriate role of environmental health professionals.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to (
