| This session will provide APHA participants with an opportunity to hear findings from a Congressionally mandated study by the National Academy of Sciences on racial, ethnic and socioeconomic status data needs for the Department of Health and Human Services. Key barriers to collecting and reporting racial and ethnic data and the rationale for continued collection of racial and ethnic data to improve public health will be shared. Speakers will describe strategies to improve racial and ethnic data at the national and state levels, including activities by the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics. Participants will also learn of pending legislation in the state of California which will prohibit the collection of racial and ethnic data. | |||
