Our seven departments work in conjunction with a variety of specialized centers to provide a diversified education, practical training, and numerous community involvement opportunities for our students. GSPH departments include:

·Behavioral and Community Health Sciences
·Biostatistics
·Environmental and Occupational Health
·Epidemiology
·Health Policy & Management
·Human Genetics
·Infectious Diseases and Microbiology

Students at GSPH can earn their MS, MPH, MHA, PhD or DrPH degree, as well as joint degrees offered in conjunction with other University of Pittsburgh schools and divisions. Constantly working to address the changing needs of public health professionals, GSPH also offers several certificate programs focusing on the most pressing areas of public health. Among these are new certificates in Global Health as well as Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response (with courses in emergency preparedness and disaster response, bioterrorism, and risk communication).

At GSPH, students have ample opportunities to participate in world-class research as a part of their studies. GSPH ranked third in 2002 competitive research grant funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health, receiving nearly $44 million, a $5.6 million increase over the previous year.
