Consumer Reports and its publisher Consumers Union present three expert, independent, nonprofit public health tools:
1. Consumer Reports on Health--celebrating 15 years of publishing. This monthly newsletter features information consumers can trust on a wide range of health topics--from avoiding hospital blunders to dangerous drug and dietary supplement interactions. Join us at the New Connections Reception on Sun. at 5:30 PM in the Exhibit Hall. On Mon. at 3:00 PM visit our Exhibit Theater presentation.
2. At our booth, we will demonstrate our new companion web site, www.ConsumerReportsonHealth.org, which posts four years of past reports with study citations. News media can apply for free web site access.
Current CRH issues and the October Consumer Reports magazine report on mental health will be available free.
3. StopHospitalInfections.org, a Consumers Union project, is promoting public disclosure of hospital-acquired infection rates. If hospitals disclose this key information, consumers and employers can select the safest hospitals and competition among hospitals will quickly force the worst to improve.
www.StopHospitalInfections.org gives consumers timely information about hospital infection issues and current legislative activities. We also provide a mechanism for consumers to contact elected officials about legislation addressing the problem of hospital-acquired infections, and the role public disclosure can play in reducing them.
