Preventing teen suicide in Denver: Results of a multi-site evaluation

This presentation will highlight the results of a multi-year, multi-site evaluation of a collaborative teen suicide prevention program in two high-schools and a homeless youth shelter in Denver. The intervention, designed to be a collaboration among multiple partners, included education, screening and treatment of youth in these three urban sites. The evaluation used a mixed-methods approach to examine both the success of the collaborative as well as the results of the intervention in reducing suicide ideation among participants.

As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to

1)Describe the barriers to evaluating school-based suicide prevention programs and some ways to overcome them.
2)Discuss the results of both the education and treatment components of this intervention.
3)Recognize the necessary components to a successful suicide prevention intervention.
