An HIV/AIDS non-profit organization was funded by HRSA to provide technical assistance (TA) to faith and community-based organizations providing primary care and support services to people of color living with HIV/AIDS. The pilot year consisted of four phases: outreach, application and needs assessment, selection and technical assistance delivery. Outreach efforts were made via a variety of methods (e.g., brochure, listservs, conferences) targeting both regions of the country and specific at-risk groups. Results showed that outreach efforts (over 11,000 contacts) were successful at reaching diverse groups (e.g., regionally, race/ethnic), with 335 organizations applying for TA. The application, assessment and selection process was refined over the pilot year, with all organizations receiving some type of TA. Lessons learned through this process will be discussed and include: outreach efforts, developing and maintaining a database, assessing need, selecting candidates, selecting and managing consultants, and working with evaluators.
