National Mental Health Quality Improvement Strategies

Ronald W Manderscheid, PhD, Chief, Survey and Analysis Branch, SAMHSA/Center for Mental Health Services, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20857, (301)443-3343, rmanders@samhsa.gov

Major progress is being made in developing quality improvement strategies at the national level in the mental health field. The field has agreed upon common performance measures (Carter Center Forum); State Mental Health Agencies have adopted a set of performance measures (Uniform Reporting System); and a consumer survey is online for use anytime to assess care (MHSIP Consumer Survey). An online outcomes system is under development (DS2K+ Outcomes System), and the information technology to drive each of these tools is available in prototype form through the Decision Support 2000+ Initiative. This presentation will provide operational knowledge of each of these systems, and locate them within the national mental health information strategy.
