Throughout the world, reproductive health programs are facing a growing crisis as a result of a lack of supplies, which are essential for HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning, and other vital sexual and reproductive health care services. The Supply Initiative (SI) has been set up to call attention to this crisis as well as to increase the availability and efficient use of human, institutional and financial resources for reproductive health supplies.
One product of the SI, the RHInterchange, a web-based tool, seeks to address the need for better coordination by capturing reproductive health supply information, currently from IPPF, UNFPA, and USAID, with future expansion to include other public sector providers, multi- and bi-lateral agencies, non-governmental organizations and governments. The RHInterchange will facilitate improved donor coordination and management of commodity programs. The data includes previous and current contraceptive procurements and related forecasted needs, by country, for major donors.
