Research presented in this session will focused on injury prevention and health protection in the special population of construction workers. The research results presented in this session will demonstrate the relationship between injury rates and related costs and the implementation of specific safety management measures within the construction industry. This presentation of research focused on construction companies in the state of Tennessee will also focus on the most frequently reported cause of injury in the construction industries participating in this study, the most frequent type of reported injuries. The difference in the implementation of the number and type of safety management elements by companies reporting a workplace injury and those companies reporting no injuries will also be discussed. This session will focus on how the results of this research support the implementation of safety management actions within the construction industry to reduce injury as well as the related costs. Specific safety management elements will be highlighted that were found to be significant in association with injury reduction as well as a discussion of those elements that were found not to be significantly associated with a reduction in injury rates.

Learning Objectives:

• Participants will have the ability to list safety management elements positively associated with lower injury costs within the construction industry. The ability to discuss the specific safety management elements related to lower injury cost rates and those safety elements that have not been found to be significantly related to a reduction in injury cost within construction companies within the state of Tennessee.
