The Healthy and Ready to Work (HRTW) program was designed to assist adolescents with special needs with the transition into adult healthcare, the workforce and towards increased independence. Presentation of Iowa’s Healthy and Ready to Work evaluation study design outlines a process and outcome evaluation based upon a quasi-experimental design that will compare system-level and individual changes with a matched comparison group. The evaluation consists of qualitative and quantitative data collected from surveys, interviews, and direct observation. The presentation will also include a report of program findings to date. The evaluation of HRTW is expected to provide educational keystones supporting the use of integrating care coordination and employment training in support of adolescent transition. Additional anticipated outcomes are increased interaction between employers and adolescents with special health care needs, and overall support of adolescents in developing self-management of healthcare. Educational objectives will include an understanding of survey design issues related to obtaining indicators of change for adolescents with special healthcare needs, qualitative data collection and analysis, and methodological issues related to use of the comparison group.
