Title: Meeting the Challenges of Accreditation: Building a Collaborative School of Public Health Authors: Michael Greenberg, PhD (Presenter) and Audrey R. Gotsch, DrPH, CHES
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Public Health (SPH) is sponsored by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in cooperation with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (RU) and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in collaboration with the Public Health Research Institute. The SPH was established on a strong partnership between UMDNJ and RU that initially sponsored the first collaborative graduate public health program accredited by CEPH in 1986. With this foundation in place, the SPH was created in 1998 with one additional academic partner, NJIT, and accredited as the first collaborative school of public health in 2001. The SPH is a statewide school with campuses in three locations. SPH faculty members have a primary faculty appointment at either UMDNJ, RU or NJIT. Students matriculate at SPH which enables them to enroll in courses in all three universities. This session will illustrate the challenges of this model, as well as the benefits of a collaborative school of public health. For more information, please see our web site at: www.sph.umdnj.edu.
