This presentation will focus on an innovative, integrated approach to municipal planning that balances the requirements of our built, green, and social infrastructures. This planning process is in response to a need to balance the ecological and public health needs of our communities with the increasing development pressures of our built environment. The case study presentation will provide an overview of the three infrastructures (built, green, and social) planning process, and how it was implemented in two New Hampshire towns (fastest growing State in the Northeast). The ecological, public health, and social capital aspects of the implementations will be a focal point of the case study presentation.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner)will be able to

• Identify and understand the nature and importance of the needs to balance our built, green, and social infrastructures
• Recognize the public health threats facing communities as they struggle with managing increasing development pressures
• Articulate how current municipal planning processes fall short of balancing the built, green, and social infrastructures
• Apply what they have learned to change zoning and other land use regulations to achieve balance between our built, green, and social infrastructures
