How to reach the Masses: Experiences with Online and Distance Education Technologies in a Rural State

This presentation will provide hands-on demonstrations of current Online and Distance Education Technologies. Advantages and disadvantages of the technologies will be discussed. Important considerations for the selection of online and distance education technologies will be presented. The participants will be asked to apply the lessons learned to their own situation and share their own experiences and suggestions with regard to online and distance education technologies in Health Administration and Public Health. The need to identify the needs and capabilities of the target audience and ways to customize the distance and online learning experience accordingly will be highlighted. Research, evaluation data and experiences from a rural state will be discussed. Special emphasis will be given to the pitfalls associated with technology use and ways to prevent them from happening to you. The five golden rules for a successful distance and online learning experience will be shared and discussed. Technologies presented and discussed include different video conferencing systems, streaming video solutions, audio conferencing systems, Learning management and Course management systems and emerging technologies. Participants will be asked and expected to share their knowledge and experience with Online and Distance Education Technology as well.
