This session will discuss the many activities that HHS agencies are pursuing in the area of health literacy. The moderator will provide an overview of health literacy activities at HHS, including the Healthy People 2010 objective on health literacy, and agency representatives will discuss their specific activities. The panel will discuss not only implementation but also evaluation approaches being used. The moderator is Cynthia Baur, the lead for the health literacy objective. Panelists are Dr. Christine Prue from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Captain Jan Drass from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Drs. Alice Horowitz and Susan Martin from the National Institutes of Health; and Captain Kerry Nesseler from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
