Public health workforce: Who will keep an aging population healthy?

Terrie Wetle, PHD, Program in Public Health, Brown University, 97 Waterman Street, G, A-2, Providence, RI 02912, 401-863-9858, Terrie_Wetle@Brown.edu

An aging population brings special responsibilities to the public health workforce, in efforts to develop appropriate prevention strategies and to promote healthy, as well as long, lives. Programs and Schools of Public Health must play new roles in educating new generations of public health professionals equipped to address the needs of an aging population. The Institute of Medicine report "Who Will Keep the Public Healthy?" will inform much of this presentation.
