To succeed in today's challenging health care environment, health care providers must become high performing organizations, and to become such they need to involve employees in decision-making, establishing effective labor/management relations, and work in partnership with their unions.
At Kaiser Permanente, frontline managers and union members are delivering impressive results -- reducing workplace injuries, raising patient satisfaction scores, reducing cost structures, improving staffing, and addressing staff turnover and absenteeism. This presentation will examine what a labor/management partnership approach offers as solutions to the nurse staffing crisis, drawing on the model and results achieved in the Labor/Management Partnership between Kaiser Permanente and the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions, which represents more than 80,000 Kaiser union workers nationwide.
