Audience: This presentation is designed for political advocates who wish to become more effective in their grassroots efforts to achieve personal and professional policy goals. Participants will be introduced to the following key points: 1. Policy change begins with each individual requiring effective grassroots organization. 2. A well thought out campaign plan can provide significant advantages to passing new policies. 3. Recruiting new and non-traditional community partners is vital to developing a well-balanced political power. These points will be addressed through examples of how the tobacco control community has achieved local policy victories. Grassroots methods will be relevant to both veteran and new policy advocates.
Benefits: Policy advocates that have experienced frustrations with their ability to engage in meaningful advocacy campaigns that incorporate a grassroots component or who are engaging in advocacy campaigns for the first time will have new tools to help win future policy battles.
