Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease affecting multiple systems in the body and often leading to substantial disability due to blindness, vascular disease necessitating leg amputation, kidney failure and premature death. Using tobacco magnifies and increases the damage diabetes would do by itself. Tobacco use is responsible for more than 90% of tumors of the oral cavity among men and 60% among women, and is responsible for 90% of oral cancer deaths in males. All forms of tobacco - cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and snuff - have been implicated in the development of oral cancers. | |||
