Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Health
Current topics in lesbian and bisexual women's health will be presented including the effects of sexual orientation and gender identity on women's access to health services; heterosexism's effects upon women's mental health; and an examination of substance use and HIV risk behavior among women who have sex with women.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, the participant will be able to: •Identify the impact sexual orientation disclosure to healthcare providers has on lesbian women's accessing health services. •Articulate how gender identity impacts cancer screening practices among African American lesbians. •Define heterosexism for purposes of public health research. •Discuss how heterosexism effects the mental health of lesbians. •Develop research methods to measure heterosexism. •Describe the HIV risk behaviors among drug using women who have sex with women.
