In this session we will explore the importance of the "Medical Deliver Business" and how it impacts current maternity care practices. Evidence based research practices are not always followed if the obstectical interventions do not have a positive fiscal impact on the medical delivery business. We will address how race, age and health insurance status effect maternal mortality and morbidity data. We will explore the recent Vaginal Birth After Cesarean(VBAC) studies and how they are impacting current maternity care practices, and how these studies are effecting women's right to choose their type of care provider and delivery options.
Learning Objectives: The participant will be able to: 1) Indentify four components of the business model of medical care. 2) Discuss factors associated with maternal mortality and morbidity data. 3) Describe the association of obstetrical interventions with maternal race, age and health insurance status. 4) Understand the shortcomings of recently published Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)studies that have impacted maternity care practices.
