Over the past four years, access to safe and legal abortion services has become limited due to at least three reasons: the physicians who are trained and willing to perform surgical abortions are aging and not being replaced; legal constraints have increased, and the antiabortion people have used fear to discourage physicians from becoming abortion providers. Since access to abortion becomes more important as chosen family size decreases, it is important that this trend be reversed. This session, The Struggle to Maintain or Expand Access to Safe Abortion Services in the U.S., focuses on what has been achieved recently to make safe abortion services available to all women who need them in the United States.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. know the importance of unrestricted access to safe, legal abortion in the United States 2. understand ways of increasing access to abortion services 3. doubt the present administration's tactics to give misinformation about reproductive health 4. comprehend the importance of increasing the number of providers of abortion services
