Head Start and Early Head Start strive to increase the school readiness of young children in low-income families by providing comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. Although most children enrolled in Head Start are eligible for oral health services most programs report that the number one issue affecting Head Start programs is access to oral health services.
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand barriers faced by Head Start and Early Head Start families when accessing oral health services. 2. Learn about programs to keep children cavity-free through preventive and educational activities. 3. Understand the relation between insurance and children’s oral health.
