Uninsured residents in the District of Columbia represent a significant portion of the population. The DC Department of Health (DOH) has a major responsibility to assist in providing coverage for residents without health coverage, and has worked with its community partners to build public health infrastructure to assist in addressing this challenge. The DC Department of Health has worked to strengthen its infrastructure to accommodate new service delivery initiatives by: developing data integration tools; conducting research on viable coverage options; expanding coverage through existing programs; and, improving coordination with community partners. DOH has also increased service options through the District’s Medicaid Program; provided broad coverage through the Safety-net Program for the uninsured; and, initiated special research through a major grant initiative to identify additional options for health care coverage. | |||
