Are We Ready? Repositioning Public Health for the 21st Century
From bioterrorism to birth defects, the US public health system needs to be better prepared for the 21st Century's health threats. This presentation will summarize the challenges facing public health in the context of health and preparedness performance measures and outline a potential action plan for change. Understanding public opinion research and legislative initatives, APHA members can play a key role in making public health a top priority for US policymakers.
Learning Objectives: 1. Outline how the US needs to modernize its public health system to effectively deal with today's new epidemics, whether accidental or not, whether chronic or infectious and 2. Learn how APHA members can play an active role in building political support for improving public health.
