An Historical View of Workers Safety and Health at the 90th Anniversary of the APHA's Occupational Health & Safety Section
This session will celebrate the accomplishments of occupational safety and health leaders, and mark the 90th anniversary of APHA's Occupational Health and Safety Section. Presenters will discuss key events in the last nine decades that have fostered or hampered progress toward safer and healthier workplaces. The speakers will represent scientists who have served in leadership positions in federal agencies, labor activists, medical professionals and political leaders.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will: (1) recognize several key events in occupational health history; (2) appreciate the interface of public health, politics, and social and economic forces when addressing workplace safety and health hazards; and (3) understand the critical role of the labor movement in fostering occupational health and safety leaders.
