There is a growing public health employee shortage which is having an adverse affect on the ability of public health agencies to fill positions with qualified workers. This shortage is due to the retirement of long-term employees, the shrinking labor pool, the lack of new recruits into public health, and a high employee turnover rate. This session will illustrate the severity of the crisis and focus on the efforts of APHA Affiliates to address this important issue.
Learning Objectives: 1. To realize the seriousness of workforce projections for public health. 2. To identify strategies that Affiliates can utilize to support public health workforce recruitment and retention.
