Purpose: To report on the progress and next steps of the Taskforce and the development of APHA positions and activities in support of Universal healthcare. Universal access to health care has always been a priority of the American Public Health Association, and has been affirmed in policy statements for decades. In 2000, the Executive Board reaffirmed the "14 Points on Universal Health Care" adopted by the Board in the early 1990’s. Objectives: The continuing crisis in access and care at local, state and national levels continues unabated and if anything the gaps have enlarged. The purpose of this session is several fold To report on the activities of the association, mobilize support and input for universal healthcare within the association, advance the issues of public health as part of the universal healthcare debate, and set the context for further advocacy and action. The program and invited speakers will discuss these issues in the context of APHA’s major priority of access and universal healthcare. All members are invited to attend. | |||
