Research!America Media/Science Forum: Creating the Environment for a Stronger Relationship Between Public Health Researchers and the Media
Americans depend on prevention and public health research to keep them and their loved ones healthy, but few realize where this protection comes from, what it is about or who is doing it. The primary way that the public learns about the benefits of this research is through the media. What can we do to strengthen our relationship with the media? How can we make it easier for the media to report on these public health benefits in a clear and easy-to-understand manner? How can we bring our research results to life? In this Research!America forum you will hear leading public health researchers and members of the media discuss how we can build stronger connections and a greater understanding between the public health community and the media.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Learn strategies for improved communication between public health researchers and the media 2. Increase understanding of the perspectives, needs and timelines associated with reporting on public health issues. 3. Learn strategies for making prevention and public health research newsworthy 4. Provide real world suggestions for strengthening connections with the media.
