Myriad factors are fueling the demand for community health practitioners (CHPs) to employ evidence based public health practice (EBPHP) principles. Unfortunately, CHPs have limited time to acquire this knowledge. The e-Roadmap to EBPHP website (www.publichealthsolutions.org) seeks to address this issue by providing real-time, one-stop access to: 1) knowledge and skill-building resources about EBPHP and 2) information about the effectiveness of population-based interventions. The “concepts” section of the website introduces the significance and steps of EBPHP as well as links to resources to learn more. The skill-building section provides links to capacity-building tools to implement the steps of EBPHP. The evidence section describes the classification system used to “grade” evidence quality, a strategy for locating the best quality evidence, and annotated weblinks to reviews, searchable databases, and other evidence sources. To illustrate the value of the e-Roadmap website, a case study investigating what works to increase physical activity among children will be performed. Since released in November 2003, the e-Roadmap has received 12,529 successful website hits, averaging approximately 960 hits per month. Future evaluation plans include examining website userfriendliness and utility.
