Healthy People 2010 enhances the capacity to interpret community health measures by providing a common framework for national, state, and community assessments. Using this framework, researchers at the Mississippi Health Policy Research Center (MHPRC) designed the Mississippi Health Assessment to collect state-wide data on the Healthy People 2010 objectives, leading health indicators, risk factors, clinical prevention screenings, health status, access to health care, satisfaction with health care, health communication, and sex-specific health issues. A random-digit-dialing telephone survey collected primary data from 1,507 MS adults. This session will highlight the methodology and application of this assessment, as well as the targeted dissemination of these findings via our health policy research center. The MHPRC holds quarterly meetings with state health agencies and foundations in order to identify their research needs. Feedback from these meetings enhanced this assessment, as well as the dissemination of its results via reports and fact sheets.
