Abstract #106451

FAM: Fight against malaria

Banji Baderinwa, School of Public Health, Morgan State University, 1700 East Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21251, 410 462 2029, walekrazy@msn.com

Project FAM is a community based intervention whose primary goal is to increase community awareness of modifiable risk factors through a comprehensive malaria reduction program. The intervention design applies the use of the Social Cognitive Theory in order to influence the participants to symbolize positive malarial reduction behavior. The program if implemented correctly will aid in the reduction of the loss of lives due to malaria, which is the leading cause of mortality for children under age 5 in Africa. The intervention is targeted at secondary school students whose parents may not be as exposed as their wards. By combining the participation of both the parents and the children Project FAM aims to drastically reduce if not eradicate malaria.
