Methods: The Disparities Work Group prioritized areas for collaboration through monthly conferences calls, meetings, and at conferences and training venues. Results: The Disparities Work Group completed the following joint activities: 1) planned and conducted a national lay health training for American Indians- Honoring the Gift of Heart Health; 2) recruited staff from CDC's State Heart Disease and Stroke and WISEWOMEN Programs, and AHA affiliates to support regional Honoring the Gift of Heart Health trainings; 3) conducted a heart disease training for Promotoras using NHLBI's Your Heart, Your Life Manual; 4) provided input and resources for CDC's Community Health Worker Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Sourcebook; 5) planned sessions for the 2nd National CDC Conference on Heart Disease and Stroke. The group is also working on: 6) disseminating faith-based programs such as CDC's Project Joy and AHA's Search Your Heart; 7) compiling an inventory of agency activities related to CVD disparities; and 8) collaborating on worksite-based programs to promote cardiovascular health; and 9) disseminating the National High Blood Pressure Education Program “Prevent and Treat High Blood Pressure—Mission Possible with priority populations.
