This roundtable discussion will facilitate an information exchange with participants to address opportunities for reducing cancer health disparities. The information provided will be appropriate for a broad range of audiences, ranging from graduate students interested in becoming involved in cancer health disparities; to senior scientists interested in exploring opportunities for interagency agreements; health planners and administrators; clinicians; and other public health practitioners interested in addressing the challenge of reducing cancer health disparities. Discussions will be tailored to the interests and experiences of participants attending the session. Topics covered will include the following: resources available to access data on cancer health disparities in geographic areas of excess mortality; discussion of a statewide smoking cessation program; discussion of tobacco related research opportunities at NCI; presentation on a patient empowerment model for reducing cancer disparities; the use of information technology in reducing cancer health disparities; and experience of interns to increase the pool of minority cancer investigators.
