In New York, local health departments are required by public health law to submit periodic community health assessments. Local health departments submit critical, qualitative information from these assessments through the Community Health Assessment Electronic Reporting System (CHAERS) to the New York State Department of Health for analysis and information dissemination. The CHAERS uses a three-tiered architecture that is made up of a client, database and server. This presentation will demonstrate how the CHAERS is used, and the short-term impact of using CHAERS at the local, regional and state levels. The presenter will describe what helped with the development, the costs, the challenges, and the benefits of CHAERS.
