Efforts to reduce disparities and improve community health are often stymied by the lack of access to information regarding the effectiveness of public health interventions. A growing movement toward the application of evidence to public health improvement has arisen in the past decade.
This session will provide the audience with the background necessary to understand evidence based approaches in public health. Presenters will define evidence-based public health (EBPH) and its underlying constructs; provide a brief history of EBPH; summarize the strategy for developing evidence reviews; contrast the evidence based method with other decision making strategies and discuss training the public health workforce to utilize evidence based approaches.
Responding to the demand for more training in EBPH approaches, several local and national groups have developed structured curriculum in EBPH. Prevention Research Centers have led these training efforts. Key issues in the development and delivery of training for the national and international public health workforce will be introduced and discussed.
