Session Abstract:
foremanc@pdx.edu 503.775.4341 The implementation of evidence based practices into the contracting of mental health services at the state and local level demands the engagement of professional and provider organizations. Mental health professionals and providers that choose to adopt evidence based practices benefit from a competitive market advantage in the changing mental health services terrain. The State of Oregon has chosen to directly engage the provider community in the development and implementation of its efforts to introduce evidence based practices into the contracting process. The purpose of this session is to illustrate the mechanisms available to state and local mental health administrators, providers and professionals that facilitate the development and implementation of evidence based practices. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of professionals and providers as stakeholders in the transformation of the current mental health service culture into a consumer-driven mental health care system. The concept of evidence based practices can be best presented to providers and professionals as an augmentation of consumer advocacy. This seminar will identify the policy mechanisms required to link the implementation of evidence based practices to reimbursements at the state and local level. Policy obstacles and difficulties in data management will be identified and several possible solutions will be presented. This presentation will address the implementation of evidence based practices from consumer, professional and provider points of view. The ultimate goal of this presentation is to facilitate the development of guidelines for evidence based practices at the state level.
