The web is a powerful medium for disseminating health information, but if web-based solutions are not designed properly target audiences will miss the message and the campaign's effectiveness suffers.
At The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Communication Programs we have developed an integrated health intelligence website framework for the United States Agency for International Development funded Information and Knowledge for Optimal Health (INFO) program. Our approach examines the variety of ways people seek information in general, and health related information specifically. This examination revolves around defining what questions they ask, how they ask them, and in what order they ask them. Based on the answers to these fundamental questions a pragmatic organization of the information emerges. This results in a knowledge management framework serving a diverse global audience with multiple needs with the most needed information.
This session demonstrates this concept by showing examples from the infoforhealth.org website which incorporate these information architecture concepts. Also described will be the development and decision making process and how we arrived at the structure, format and presentation of the information.
