The collaborative process is an essential component of public health. However, partners wanting to develop and sustain collaborations do not always recognize the structures and policies that assist in this process. This presentation will use research and experiences from multidisciplinary, public health policy collaborations.
Basic components necessary for collaborations are rooted in trust and relationships. The process and structures necessary to create an effective collaboration will be reviewed. A collaborative framework and tools will be provided as a means of focusing discussion and decision-making. This framework includes an assessment of resources and the creation of principles, goals and aims to contribute to the implementation of an effective policy development relationship between the Occupational Health and Safety and Environment Sections within APHA.
