Role of dentists in improving health literacy

As part of a session on the roles and responsibilities of health professionals in health literacy improvement, this presentation will focus on dentists and their staff. The presentation will examine the critical role of dentists, hygenists, and their office practices to identify, understand and address the health literacy challenges of patients seeking dental care.

Understand the role of dentists/dental hygienists in communicating effectively with patients.
Identify what dental/dental hygiene schools could do to increase the communications skills of their students.
Identify at least one approach to overcome health literacy barriers.
